A while ago, I recommended a couple of films to my friend. She came back to me and couldn’t stop raving about Meryl Streep and Robert Redford in Out of Africa (1985). We’re talking about two of the greatest actors of all time; falling in love with Karen and Denys was inevitable. I remember melting on the couch throughout the film.
If you are a fan of these two actors, then you must watch Meryl in Sophie’s choice (1982) directed by Alan J.Pakula (novel by William Styron) and Robert Redford in “The Great Gatsby” (1974) novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald and screen adaptation by Francis Ford Coppola (screen adaptation).
Both these movie adaptations were very successful; that doesn’t happen too often. Mia Farrow played Jay Gatsby’s icy love interest (very different form her role in Rosemary’s baby (1968) by Roman Polanski).
I haven’t seen Baz Luhrmann‘s version yet (2013) with Leonardo Di Caprio and I wouldn’t like to compare them either. Both versions surely look different but they are both special in their own way. Although they say this is Leo’s film, I also look forward to seeing Carey Mulligan on screen
I mostly loved her in “The greatest” (2009), one of the films that launched her career (with Pierce Brosnan and Susan Sarandon). This film by Shana Fest wasn’t heavily marketed but I just love the entire cast. I can’t find my favourite scene (when they’re in the car coming back from the cemetery), but here is the trailer.
