Splendor in the grass by Elia Kazan is by far my All-time favorite oldie. If you haven’t watched it yet, you are missing out. “It is a story about the many aspects of love, about love fulfilled and love denied; and about love’s desperate alternatives. This is a love story about a boy and a girl deeply, irredeemably, gloriously and hopelessly in love; a love story unlike any other“. Its a classic rich-boy-falls-in-love-with-poor-girl situation where social expectations act as an obstacle to them having a relationship. It’s funny how we can still relate to this today.
I instantly fell in love with Natalie Wood (also known for her performance in West Side Story and Rebel Without a Cause). She reminds me so much of my own mother and she is one of my idols; She is so breathtakingly beautiful, talented, innocent and classy. Her death was tragic and I only wish that she could still be alive today.
Warren Beatty was also able to stop my heart a couple of times. I’ve never seen such a handsome, convincing and charming actor. This was his first movie appearance; a role that rocket-launched him into many more successful films and into an amazing career. Annette Benning is one lucky lady!
