“The Power of NOW” by Eckhart Tolle is a book that helped me clarify a few aspects of my life. It simply emphasizes the fact that we feel pain because we have difficulties in accepting situations the way they are. The sooner we learn to accept something, the sooner we can learn to deal with it and move on. It also highlights the fact that most of us inflict pain on ourselves. That is due to the fact that we either drag our past with us each day (By refusing to accept change) or because we project ourselves in the future (When thing don’t happen the way we envision them, we feel frustrated). The key is to let go of all expectations and to just go with the flow. Basically, the book teaches us what my acting classes have always been about; to live in each moment and to do so FULLY. When you focus all your attention on the present time, all your worries will dissipate and you will be able to enjoy life as it is.
Which brings me to my side note: YOLO. Every time someone says that commercial line to me, I can’t get help but cringe a little!! You only live once? ONLY once? Umm excuse moi, but this doesn’t apply to Everyone; NOT for people who believe in reincarnation, NOT for Yogi’s who believe that life is eternal, NOT for Buddhists and NOT even for Cats. I mean, I get what they are trying to say, but LIVE IN THE MOMENT should be the term that we employ, which is kind of what “The Power of Now” and Carpe Diem mean.. So, the next time someone says YOLO to you, just give them the LAAAAZZZY EYYYEEE @_o See video > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WLCSHoc4ZM
